About This Resource

Part of self-regulation is effective communication of your feelings to other people. It can be very effective for students to learn to communicate overwhelming feelings or uncomfortable emotions because of the situation they would like to change. Communication can be challenging and students can often be aggressive or passive in their approach. This lesson helps them distinguish between passive, aggressive, and assertive communication. They learn to use I-Messages as part of assertive communication. I-Messages help them manage emotions and make changes to triggering situations.

A fun way to teach i-messages. My students especially liked the BINGO game.

Great resource to strengthen skills for my students and use for reflection. Very complete. The resource had everything I needed, was easy to use and engaging for my students.

I created a lesson around the wording in this lesson and reviewed what each sailor meant as well as I-Messages. We then played the bingo game. I used this with 4th graders and they had a lot of fun!
