About

A foundational part of social emotional learning is developing a student's feelings vocabulary. When they can name how they feel, then they can begin to handle those feelings. Use this feelings spinner with feelings cards or posters to help students explore different aspects of feelings.

Have students pick a feeling and then spin. They will:

  • Say what it sounds like (i.e., bored might be a sigh, or confused might be a huh?”
  • Name a feeling that is similar or less/more intense. For example, for sad they might say down or depressed.
  • Tell when they have felt that way before.
  • Draw the feeling. This can be a situation or a picture of person.
  • Act out the feeling.
