How They Are Setup
Each grade band has the same 5 CASEL competencies and 15 SEL Goals.
For each grade, there are several objectives for each competency and goal. Each objective is translated into an I can statement.

CASEL Competency: Self Awareness
SEL Goal: Has an awareness of own emotions
K-2 Objectives:
- Recognizes and accurately names feelings.
- Identifies and communicates an emotion.
- Identifies emotions and the situations that cause them (i.e., triggers).
K-2 I Can Statements:
- I can spot and name different feelings.
- I can tell someone how I am feeling.
- I can say how something makes me feel.
How to Use Them
You can use these SEL Skill Checklists to plan SEL lessons, add SEL objectives to academic lessons, create interventions, monitor progress, and share objectives with students.
Sources
CASEL (Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning) has established five social emotional learning competencies important to academic and life success. Many states and districts have now developed standards, and there is a great deal of overlap between them. These checklists were compiled, edited, and streamlined using standards published by the following states: Texas, Alaska, Illinois, Tennessee, Massachusetts, New York, Ohio, and Kansas.
